Kia Ora FM 89.8 was established on 10 July 1992 as part of the National Governments policies to contribute to the preservation of Te Reo Maori me ona Tikanga. Kia Ora FM 89.8 is owned and operated by Tanenuiarangi Manawatu Incorporated, the Iwi Authority for Rangitaane O Manawatu.

Kia Ora FM 89.8 is the local Iwi / Maori radio station that broadcasts from Wharite to an audience capacity of 120,000. We are the media arm of Tanenuiarangi Manawatu Incorporated, the mandated Iwi Authority for Rangitaane O Manawatu. We broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the entire year.
We cover part of the Kapiti Coast, all of Horowhenua, Manawatu, Rangitikei, and parts of Wairarapa and Tararua.
Kia Ora FM 89.8 focuses on music and issues which are current and which relate to the lifestyle of New Zealanders. Our listeners tune into Kia Ora FM 89.8 because we tackle the issues no one wants to tackle, we encourage community participation and we are local. We are not driven by ratings or profit. Our format promotes our culture, our heritage and encourages the involvement and growth of people, music and New Zealand as a whole.

We are also the only bi-lingual Iwi radio station broadcasting 24/7 throughout the Manawatu.
